Travel updates
Hello from Da Nang! Since my last update in January, I’ve been to Malaysia, Singapore, and Australia. This was my annual return to my homeland with a detour thrown in. No new travel, but always good to go home.
I’ve been in Da Nang for most of March to catch up on work before my next trip.
In April, I will be in China and the Philippines for rail-related travels. I will be visiting some new (to me) cities, so they will be featured on Nomadic Notes at some point.

On the chronological blogging front, I’m now up to October 2025, so I am only 5 months behind.
The oddly modern Vinh Station, the old apartments from the German Democratic Republic, remnants of the Nghe An Ancient Citadel, Vinh Market and the famous foam coffee, Ho Chi Minh, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, and future Vinh on the high-speed railway.
• Phnom Penh Airport Express Bus – Techo International Airport to the city centre
Phnom Penh has a shiny new airport, though it is much further away from the city than the old airport. There is sort of a plan for an airport railway, but don’t wait up for that to happen. Until then, there is a useful airport bus that goes to the city centre.

• Phu Quoc trip report – 2026 edition
“Old Phu Quoc airport redevelopment, the expansion of the current airport, the new urban area to support the APEC meeting, the ambitious Phu Quoc Metro, and hundreds of empty cookie-cutter shophouses and villas in fake European new urban areas.”
I visited Phu Quoc in January after 5 years since my last visit. This post covers construction projects, but they are all tourism-related, so have a look if you are wondering what is going on there.
