The best beach near Bangkok by train
Porters of Kilimanjaro, 150 years of the European rail timetable, busiest airports, and vacation planning with ChatGPT
Hello from Phan Thiet, sometimes known as neighbouring Mui Ne. This is the closest beach by train from Saigon, so it is a good way to start a road trip. I’m here for train research, and checking out some developments along the coast.
This week’s post is from last year as I chronologically make my way through my travels. I listed Hua Hin as the best mainland beach near Bangkok, and it will be even easier to get to once the upgraded rail line from Bangkok opens.

I think that CNN Traveler is really missing the implications of AI by a mile.
Liked especially the interview with the porters. It does no good to comment here, of course, but it would have been interesting to hear from the porters about the obvious, and maybe not so obvious, mistakes tourists make.
